The Hype:

Everyone loves Color Monte. It has so much going for it as a trick - ONLY three cards used. Super easy to do. LOADS of phases means loads of magic. A climatic final phase that actually does bring the trick to a new level. It is a stone-cold classic of magic for a reason. Card Clone is a modern take on this genius trick. Using three specially printed gaff cards (that can slip into your wallet or purse) it uses a presentation hung on the modern phenomena of credit card cloning and twentieth century fraud. Present it as a serious piece or play it for laughs - whatever suits your style! Truly maximum magic for minimum pocket space and effort!!!

My Take:

Who among us has not trotted out Color Monte for a friend, party or client. I wnt to one convention and saw a big crowd surrounding a young magician who was doing Color Monte. As we all know it, I was curious what the draw was. He was doing the routine with his own jokes in a dead on Christopher Walken impression. When I was at a lecture at Magic Live 2013, I started talking to the man sitting behind me, who turned out to be Arthur Emerson. He told me that they had sold an incredible amount of copies of this trick.

There has to be something that keeps Color Monte at the top of the purchased packet trick list. It is simple to do and packs a huge bang. People love it. And if you don’t have your set of cards along, you can always wing it with any three cards you might have. This attribute leaves the effect open for endless customization. And Big Blind has seized upon a plot that is very relevant to life today. How many friends do you know who have had their identity stolen and their credit cards cloned? This happens on a daily basis. Liam Montier and company have done a nice job of bringing a classic up to date.

If you have never done Color Monte (really??), the routine is taught in an 8 minute downloaded video. It is extremely easy to do, Even a beginner can handle this and therein lies one of the main charms of this routine. Easy enough for a novice but strong enough for a pro. This cards are printed to resemble credit cards. The cards themselves are very nicely printed on very good card stock. With care, this set should last a long time. If you wear them out, you obviously love the routine and 15 bucks will get you a brand new set.

I started out with packet tricks and still love them. My main problem is that I only have room in my pocket for limited sets of cards. This is going to be carried for a while and I look forward to doing a fun routine and the look of confusion in my spectator’s eyes.

Like most Big Blind products, this gets a big Thumb’s Up.
