The Hype:

A VIDEO DOWNLOAD MASTERCLASS - Mat Parrott demystifies an esoteric mathematical principle first published over 50 years ago by Norman Gilbreath; The Gilbreath Principle.

Only a handful of the world’s most accomplished mentalists understand the power of this ingenious concept and how it can be exploited to create explosive demonstrations of power.

The secret principle allows you to know, with 100% accuracy, information about a deck of cards (or stack of any items) mixed by a spectator. It allows you to create and perform miracles without the use of any gimmicks and without the use of any sleight of hand.

We believe so many mentalists never truly grasp the power of Gilbreath because they freeze up when they see the algebraic equations it’s traditionally taught alongside. The effects are astonishing but on paper they sound so damn complicated to achieve!

The truth is, the principle is actually really, really easy and Mat Parrott will prove it to you (without any algebra in sight).

WHAT'S IN THE DOWNLOAD?

What is Gilbreath - Mat Parrot explains the Gilbreath principle in a way that is very easy to understand.

Out of Breath - A spectator shuffles a deck of playing cards and cuts off a small stack. While your head is turned away, you are able to divine the colour of each and every card in the stack. Think Luke Jermay's Colourblind using a regular deck of cards.

Poker in the Rear - Your influence will cause a spectator to deal every person at the table a winning poker hand from a deck that they've just shuffled! From the moment you hand them the deck, you never touch it again.

Lottery Prediction - A stack of numbered cards are mixed by the spectator and they deal six random numbers. Impossibly, they match the exact same numbers printed on a real lottery ticket that has been in full view from the start.

Scrabbled - From a mixed bag of Scrabble tiles and in a fair procedure of free choices, your participant creates a word of their choosing. Against all odds, the word is accurately predicted in a very surprising and entertaining finalé. Great for virtual performances.

Shuffling Cards - Mat teaches simple false shuffling techniques to help make your performances even more deceptive.

PLUS a bonus eBook ('Deep Breath Supplement') with an explanation of a more advanced version of Out of Breath.

My Take:

The Gilbreath Principle is not a new concept. It was introduced by Norman Gilbreath, a math major at UCLA, in the Linking Ring magazine in 1958. Since then, it has spawned a ton of variations.

I was first introduced to the principle in Volume 1 of Max Maven's VideoMind. His routine "Mockingbird" (to quote by British friends) gobsmacked me. One of those tricks that just cannot be explained and was so easy to do. He later put out a small book on it entitled "Redivider".

So when this came out, I was anxious to see what it offered. Turns out for 18 bucks you get a pretty good deal. 104 minutes of video instruction that was filmed very professionally. In other words, sound is great, angles are great and the teaching is excellent. 5 routines and a pdf of an advanced version.

The first thing is the explanation of why the principle works. Mat teaches it using different colored poker chips instead of cards and this actually makes it clearer. It is also obvious that Mat has watched more than one episode of Hold 'Em Poker tournaments as he does a nice job of a one handed faro shuffle with the chips. I am sure that some of the purchasers of this package will spend some time trying to get that move down.

Out of Breath - There have been people for years that claim to be able to "feel" the color of something without seeing it. Randi did a great job of debunking these frauds. However, this simple procedure allows you to apparently accomplish this task. You also receive a pdf of a slightly advanced version requiring some memorization.

Poker in the Rear - If you have done any traveling, especially in the American southwest, you have no doubt seen a sign in a bar or a postcard that says "Liquor in the front, Poker in the rear." Not politically correct but still, it's a classic. The only real connection the title has to the effect is Poker but it is a very nice clean routine with a stronger kicker.

Lottery Prediction - Lotteries have been around forever. Back before the government got smart and started in the lottery business, the numbers racket was run by gangsters. Nowadays, you can walk into most any store and make a purchase. It has gotten crazy. I saw a $50.00 scratch ticket last week! And I think we all know someone who thinks of the lottery as their retirement strategy so this type of routine really strikes home for a lot of your audience. And the good thing is that you can change the numbers and do it again. You will have to either buy or make up a special deck but the working could not be simpler. This one I really like.

Scrabbled - When I got the files for this, I dug out my copy of "Redivider" by Phil Goldstein to bone up on the principle. On page 23, he has published a routine called Word Row. Scrabbled is so close that Phil should have been credited. The main difference is that Phil used cards and Mat uses actual Scrabble tiles. The climax of both routines is that once a word is shown, it is proved that you knew in advance what the word would be. In Mat, you open a box and the predicted sausage is inside. In Phil's, the force word is Quack and a picture of a duck is pulled out. Both great routines but just too close to be considered a real original.

In spite of the Phil Goldstein duplication, I will still recommend this product. If you are not familiar with the principle, this give you a good introduction plus you get some very deceptive, easy to do routines. You will have fun with this one.
