My Take: It is always a joy and a sadness to review a product from the late Mr. Easton. He could make anything he was given magical, funny and fun. I was fortunate enough to attend a lecture with him in Columbus, Ohio. He not only used me for some of the routines but we shared a pizza after. An amazing talent and an amazing man. He is missed. If there is one trick that appeals to all ages, it has to be sponge balls. You don't even have to do it that well to get a huge reaction (but, of course, you should). And one thing that makes the routine more effective is a story line. If you are familiar with Daryl's work, he know he was a master of story lines. And everyone's favorite sponge routine is the rabbits. When you open the box, you full out a sheet of foam rubber. This has been cut so you can just punch out the rabbits. When you are done they can simply be reinserted into the sheet to protect and keep them from loss. It makes a nice way to transport them in your case, too. The routine is taught on a 40 minute video. Murphy's Javier Fuenmayor goes through what you receive in the package (a sheet of foam rubber that has been cut with punchouts) He then introduces the performance video which is actually Daryl's performing it in Columbus. (You can tell from the bricks in the background). Javier could have done an incredible job, too, but it was so nice to experience Daryl's personality on the original. When the performance is over, Javier walks you thorough the tutorial and shows you absolutely everything you need to know. As a bonus, they have also included Daryl's original explanation video. Of course this means that you get taught twice but I don't think you will mind. Both men have their own styles and are excellent teachers. You might enjoy learning with one more than the other. If you have ever done a sponge routine, you know how big the reactions can be for such a simple bit of magic. People come up to you years later and mention them. I even had a friend insist I show him the sponge bunnies and I had never even done it. The original bunnies that were sold with a basic routine are serviceable but these are much higher quality. And by flipping them over, the bunnies turn into birds. Very clever. Funny, funny routine brilliant created by someone we all miss. Get this and see if you can build a reputation with it. Very visible and very easy to do. A true classic. |
