Crazytown

the Hype:

A fooling, memorable and easy to do gem from David Regal. Stun your audiences with multiple impossible predictions before leaving them speechless with a jaw-dropping kicker ending they’ll never see coming!

“Crazytown” by David Regal is a professional quality effect that is easy enough for even beginners to do. Two powerful principles have been cleverly combined to create a remarkably deceptive routine that even fools magicians. After being used as a signature piece in David’s Magic Castle act—and fooling many of the smartest minds in magic along the way—this amazing effect is finally available to you.

This is a sensational routine that sets the tone for a performance and lets the audience know they’re in for a good time. The best part is that it’s basically self-working thanks to the two included gimmicked decks. There is no sleight of hand needed.

Easy to do

Direct, clean and fair

Packs small, plays big

Involves multiple people

Participants mix the cards themselves

No rough and smooth

Custom-printed decks included

My Take:

I have to admit it. That David Regal is one clever guy. When I have a new effect enroute to me, I like to see how I would approach the same plot and this time, I thought I had it nailed. It would take me buying five special decks and work to put it together. Let's see. Five decks at roughly $10.00 each, That makes $50.00. This sells for $39.95 so it's a bargain already. Then I got it delivered and was immediately humbled by the brilliant thinking David put into this. I was not even close.

When you get the package, you will notice how nice the packaging is. Good solid cardboard that stays closed with magnets. It is designed to hold both decks firmly and is just the right size to put in a closeup case. (10” X 4.5”). The case is solidly built and should last a very long time. You also receive two gimmicked decks that look legit. The routine lets your volunteers shuffle and cut the cards to their content. Although the cards cannot be examined closely the pacing keeps them from grabbing and examining.

As The ad copy says, it is basically a self working trick that reaches the miracle level. This is the type of routine that will have them talking for quite a while after the show. I know it has played well in the Castle.

David really plays it for laughs. I realize that not everyone is quite as funny as David is. (After all, he was head writer on the Rug Rats cartoon series for years.) He also has a very outgoing personality. If neither of these is in your bag of tricks, it can be played straight and will still get killer results.

The effect is accomplished by combining two methods you should already be familiar with (No hints!) There are zero sleights although you will want to practice to get it down smoothly.

Instructions are delivered via a 25 minute download. This is a professionally shot video not like some of the blurry ones I have seen in the past. This is first class.

One thing that you should like is that you can perform the trick with four volunteers. It could be done with less but I would suggest that you utilize the full four. I would keep it for a close-up show to give the full effect. The volunteers in the video look completely stunned by the denouement. It is absolutely devastating. And you can tell that David is having as much fun performing it as his volunteers that are watching. The only downside that I see is that you cannot do the trick again with any of the same people.

I would give this one of my highest recommends. It is stunning and easy to do. Plus it will (as the British love to say) gobsmack you. Three thumbs up (if one of them is a thumbtip).
