The Hype:
Jason Suran is one of NYC's hardest working mentalists and is regularly hired by celebrities, dignitaries, and the biggest companies in the world. "ESPidus Novus" is one of his signature routines that he performs at nearly all these events. It combines three classic feats of mentalism into a routine that packs a ton of impact into a short amount of time.
With your back turned, you ask someone to circle a symbol written on your business card, and then write down a city they'd like to travel to (or any other unique piece of information). Finally, your volunteer folds and hides the business card in any hand. When you turn around, you immediately nail the hand the card is hidden in, the symbol, and then the city.
Easy to do
Hard-hitting
Perform it anywhere from formal shows to street magic
Can even be done surrounded
Download "ESPidus Novus" today and jump right into your new favorite routine. Jason teaches all of the basics, as well as important subtleties and variations (including a routine that can be done for more than one person at a time). You'll even get to see the routine in action during multiple live in-studio performances to ensure you walk away confident in your ability to perform this professional routine.
NOTES: Upon publishing this download, it came to our attention that Jerome Finley also combines the "Acidus Novus" peek with a "Which Hand" premise and we would like to ensure he receives proper crediting. The name "Jason Sobel" was also a pseudonym that Jason Suran no longer uses.
My Take:
If you like something you can do at a moment's notice with borrowed items and CHEAP! This would definitely be a good choice to make. You can use your business card (always a great giveaway that will help you get bookings) or you can use your volunteer's card (if they think yours is a bit shady) This does seem like real mind-reading and it is not difficult to do.
I first ran into this peek several years ago on a Ran Pink DVD. It fooled me then and I think the demo video will do the same for you.
The which hand plot has become increasingly familiar in past years using magnets and all kinds of gimmicks to ensure that you pick the right hand. There are no gimmicks here. The method is super easy although please rehearse it thoroughly before you perform it. It is not 100% but the more you do it, the more accurate you will be. This is too good to tip accidentally tip.
Instruction is via a 40 minute video but the first 15 minutes are live performances. Although it does show how effective the method is, I think it could have done with a bit less performance time.
This is a great method to do a classic billet type trick when you have nothing prepared. The major problem I can see is that is priced too low. This is a powerhouse effect that you are getting almost free.
There is nothing to lose or to break and you already have it with you. It can be done with a pen but if you carry a Sharpie, it would be the superior choice. Highly recommended.
