Free William Hicks - Dead Rebel Magic $39.00 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186203627108?hash=item2b5a99de64:g:-IMAAOSwQwhlddU5
The Hype:
The Follow up to The Con.
Free William Hicks a new version of the classic Free Will plot.
Includes stunning props and leather wallet.
Routine and bonus effect presented by Liam Montier.
A faced down prediction is placed onto the table from the start.
Then three coloured poker chips are removed from the leather pouch and placed face down so that the colours cannot be seen.
Your guest is asked to place one chip back in the pouch, one to give to you and one to keep.
Once this is done the card is shown to have predicted your guests decisions.
My Take:
This trick has three phases. In the first, you are able to point out which chip your volunteer moved. In the second, you are able to tell him the color of the moved chip. In the last, one chip is placed into the pouch, one is given to you and the last is retained by your volunteer. Your prediction is flipped over to show that it matches the situation completely. Sorry if I have repeated some of the ad copy but this is such a powerful and clean effect that it deserves the retelling (in case you missed it the first time around.)
The routine is taught by the ever lovely Liam Montier (so you know the instruction will be complete and easy to follow). The first and second phases are based on a Bob Hummer trick. For my money, Bob was one of the more brilliant magicians in his day. Most of his effects were based on mathematical principles and you will fool yourself when you do them. Martin Gardner was impressed enough that he included his material in his books. A former assistant to Paul Le Paul, he is the inventor of a trick most of you already know. The Floating (or Whirling) card, one of the best sellers in Vegas magic stores.
Years ago, I met Paul Richards of Elmwood Magic at a convention and we have stayed in touch ever since. Paul is a great demonstrator and fooled me badly with a trick he had released called “Free Will” by Dede Corbuzier. It was a deadly deceptive effect that sold for very cheap money. Since its release in 2004, it has been used as the basis for countless tricks. “Free William Hicks” is one of them that uses the principle to great effect.
As always with effects from Dead Rebel, the props are first class and built to last. I got so tired of buying tricks that come in a cheap plastic wallet. This comes in a thick leather pouch that is built to last a lifetime. The chips it comes with appear to be made from wood and the graphics printed on them are eye catching yet subtle.. The marking system is very nice and will prove to be no challenge to each of you.
The pouch and chips come in a replica of an old pack of chewing tobacco. When you get it, it does look brand new but you are told to abuse it, wad it up, carry it in a pocket and before long, it looks old. At least mine does.
This is a beautiful routine that is self working and done entirely by your volunteer. If you skip the last phase, the routine can be repeated ad infinitum. To finish it, you perform the last phase and then go on to the next effect in your set. And, if you take it to a bar, it will win you free drinks all night!
As with everything I have seen from Dead Rebel, the props are superbly made and meant to last. As a reviewer, I get more stuff that I have room to keep but I guarantee you, anything I get from Dead Rebel is going directly into my permanent collection.
Need I say it? This is highly recommended and is something you will be proud to carry.
