My Take: One of the things that I really love about products from Dead Revel is, of course, the quality of the props. But in second place is the promo videos. They really set the mood for the routines. Using a woman with the perfect voice to narrate, you’re shown vintage photographs to get you in the proper frame of mind. Since this routine involves a gambling cheat, one of the photos used is a vintage photo of Skagway, Alaska. Skagway was the home of legendary con man, Soapy Smith, who was also shot to death here by an enraged citizen. At his funeral, the pastor intoned, “The way of transgressors is hard.” You might like to do a little reading on Soapy to get more background for your routine. You get all you need in a nice cardboard box with a vintage label offering the Silver King, a 32 calibre revolver, normally $10.00, on sale for only $2.50. Plus, if you cut the ad out and send it in with your order, you get a second revolver free. Such a deal! Inside the box is a lovely little zippered leather pouch with two compartments, one for the chips for the routine and one for the prediction card and the chip which is given to your volunteer to put into his pocket to be held without being viewed. As with all Dead Revel products, the quality of the props is superb. The pouch is made from soft quality leather. This is such a treat after seeing so many companies try to get by on the cheap. It might be a little large for a shirt pocket (although it will fit in some) but should prove to be no problem for a jacket or pants pocket. The method is simplicity itself. The one downside is that it cannot be repeated for the same people. It might take a little thinking as you perform the trick but it is not difficult. Of all the Dead Rebel products, I think this one offers the most opportunity to embellish the story with history. The Wild West theme is popular worldwide and there is no end to the material for research. If you are a good story teller this could become a signature piece for you. I am most impressed with Simon’s new company and can hardly wait to see what he releases next. Please do yourself a favor and purchase at least one of his products. This is a purchase you will never regret. Obviously, this is highly recommended. |
