The Butterfly Effect – Peter Nardi $25.00 http://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=57503
Around ten years ago Peter Nardi created an effect that has been shared with very few magicians. It's his go to "magician fooler" and makes a really nice presentation piece to perform for lay people. It uses a regular deck, the process is ultra-fair and the reveal is jaw-dropping! In 2015 Peter Nardi featured this effect in his lectures and the response was incredible. He has had so many requests to release this to the community and he is happy to say his good friend Titanas finally convinced him to put his work on the Butterfly Effect on DVD. On this DVD you will learn Peter Nardi's complete handling and presentation for the Butterfly Effect as well as some additional ideas that he has kept secret for a long time. Not only that but you will also receive two custom printed reveal cards and a printable PDF for Peter Nardi's parlour presentation Fate & Free Will. The Butterfly Effect is a self-working masterpiece that you will love performing!
I love this trick and will be performing it. A very strong aspect of this is that you can hand the deck to your volunteer and never touch it again, letting him do all the work. I always like to try to figure out a method after watching the demo before I watch the explanation. The first thing that came to mind when I saw Peter’s demo was the Kruskal Count. Which is a very ingenious mathematical oddity. There are numerous explanations on the web so I won’t bother explaining it here. Needless to say, I was wrong and Peter fooled me.
Now, for the downside. While watching his explanation, I realized that it is closely related to other card tricks that I have run into (and even performed over the years.) To be fair to Peter, I am not going to give a source for this as to do so would be to tip his method. This is also another one trick DVD for $25.00. After seeing both the quality and the quantity of similarly priced DVD’s from companies such as Big Blind Media, I think this would have been a much better value as part of a series of tricks on one DVD.
My only other complaint is that once the name “Butterfly Effect” is mentioned and a short explanation given, it (and the concept) is not only not mentioned again but the connection between the term and the trick is only very peripheral if at all. I believe the term was coined by writer Ray Bradbury in his short story , “A Sound of Thunder” in which a time traveler journeys to prehistoric times and accidentally steps on and kills a butterfly. When he returns to the present, his entire world has changed. A great piece of fiction and it you would like to read it, here is a link.

Conclusion : This is a super trick and you will use it. You will have to decide for yourself if the cost is justified to add one piece to your repertoire. Peter does an excellent job of teaching it. He has included a couple of specially printed cards and a pdf that will enhance your performance but the effect can be done without them. This might have been a better value as a download.
