My Take:

Don't let it bother you that all you receive in the package is two small cards and a link to the video. The real value in this purchase lies in the video. However the cards are used in arriving at your answer. They are a tool and a very valuable one. The secret is right in front of the spectator's eyes and can even be held and examined yet you get all the information you need by how the cards are handled.

I had just seen Louis demonstrate his cold reading skills while reviewing Dee Christopher's Eclipse. This must have been done at the same place, same time as the same volunteer is used for both videos.

The packaging on this (and every release form the 1914) is gorgeous. Gold foil printing on a black background gives their products a very distinctive look.The cards that come in the package are not gaffed but are set up to make it easy to follow along in your presentation.

In 2014, Discovery Channel brought out a new program called Mind Control Freaks featuring four experts on different areas of the magic spectrum. Louis is the one who is listed as an expert of both mentalism and hypnotism.

In the first phase, you reveal the star sign of your volunteer who actually gives you the info without saying a word or realizing that it is being done. One of the cards has four categories with a number of words under each one. Your job is to tell them the word being thought of. This will require some memorization of a list of words. You are taught a procedure to memorize the words and their position. Louis says the method is fairly standard among mentalists. I would suggest taking the time to memorize the entire list as a cheat sheet would just be too obvious. After finding out which categories their word is under, you are able to tell them the word being thought of. Very clever and you will recognize the technique probably from your first magic set. It is fairly well hidden an you will never be caught out.

The final reveal of the star sign does require a bit of fishing but the procedure makes perfect sense and is not difficult to accomplish. He also gives his technique for memorizing which season each sign is in.

Now, if this was all you got, you would have a reasonably priced miracle. But then, he goes on to teach his cold reading techniques.

As with a lot of readings, it relies heavily on the Barnum-Forer effect where statements are made that are so general that they can be applied to most anyone. This has been demonstrated in the classroom where the professor handed a sheet to each student with a number of statements on each. They were told that the sheet was made up individually for each student. After they had read the sheets, they agreed that the statements came very close to them, The professor then revealed that each sheet was identical and that each student was able to apply them to his or her own life. Obviously, as you work through a reading session with someone, it will give you a great advantage if you have a good imagination and can elaborate on different subjects.

Now you may be disappointed at noticing the lack of physical product in this package. You only get two small cards. But they do allow you to perform real mindreading. Louis has put some simple principles into play to create a very strong routine. As you know, good mentalism does cost more than your standard closeup effect. Sometimes you get nothing but instructions and still pay a good deal. Look at some of the pamphlets from Docc Hilford. You think nothing of spending $50.00 for a few stapled pages. Believe me, Iris is worth the money and you will use it if you are into mentalism. Recommended.
