The Hype:

'The Painting' is a brand new and KILLER release from Dead Rebel Productions!

This is an off-beat and super deceptive mentalism / bizarre routine where your spectators free choices are influenced by a mysterious painting and poem.

The handling is self-working, impossibly clean and has no rough and smooth, no sleights or moves, and no maths.

Present it as a darker piece with Simon's back story from the trailer, or more straight up as an example of how easily we can be influenced by art and literature.

The set includes the picture cards housed in a custom card box, together with two prints which feature the birds of paradise on one side, and the poem on the other, all stored in a larger, handcrafted storage box, and features the full explanation, together with bonus handlings, taught by Liam Montier.

 My Take:

A package from Simon at Dead Rebel is always a joy to receive. You know it will be classy and deceptive. So it is no surprise that The Painting is gorgeously designed and comes complete with beautiful custom printed cards. Liam Montier teaches everything you might need to know in a 26 minute video. And as always. the trailer really sets the mood. Dead Rebel’s use of vintage black and white films paired with a great narrator really sets the mood for you. Watch this and you know you’re in for something special.

The packaging sets this apart, too. It comes in a small cardboard box with a nice graphic on the cover. Inside you get the needed cards in a sturdy small box with a cover decorated with a vintage illustration. You also receive two copies of the painting with an illustration on one side and a poem on the other. Having two identical copies allows you to put one illustration side up and the other poem side up enabling you to be able to read the poem and at the same time display the illustration.

As with most of Dead Rebel’s products, you get a big bang performance with no sleight of hand. This one I really liked because when was the last time you were fooled by a magician’s choice? I watched the video and thought I had it after the first phase but the following phases left me shaking my head. Totally fooled and so easy to do. Liam also teaches a false shuffle that not only looks great but is easy to do.

The only downside on this is that it cannot be repeated for the same crowd and the props cannot be examined. However, this is common in a majority of tricks on the market today so it is not really downsides. The handling on this really is so convincing that your audience should not even question the props.

Also, as usual with Dead Rebel being a good storyteller is a huge plus for your performance. Since the climax of the routine involves a skull, it will be great for the Bizarre Magic performer. I personally love skulls and even have one with me at all times! Crystal Skull Vodka comes in  a really neat crystal skull. I bought one strictly for the skull bottle. (Vodka was not bad either) The bottle was designed by Dan Ackroyd. This would really put a punch in your performance if after the climax of the routine, you brought out a crystal skull and set it on the table. Just an idea.

Another thing I really liked was that each of the cards (besides being so attractive) was different from all the others. Dead Rebels’ Angels and Demons deck was done the same way. However with the Angels and Demons deck, you receive a full deck of different graphics that can be examined thoroughly on completion of the trick. I have no idea how Simon keeps coming up with such quality pictures for his effects but after seeing this, you will wonder how he can put out products like this at the prices he does. True, the cost is a little more than some of the other stuff on the market but once you have these in your hands, you will never regret your purchase.

It is no secret that I have become a huge fan of Dead Rebel. I have even set up a close up case filled with nothing but Dead Rebel products. So, yes, thank you, Simon. I heartily endorse this product.
