The Hype:

1/3 the fat but all the awesomeness, Christian Engblom (1/3 of the Fat Brothers) is now sharing his most prized SECRET... a secret that he has kept for 24 years.
It's that good.

Stop manipulating the cards. Start manipulating the audience.

Triple C, the CLEANEST way to control a card or several cards.
So clean -- there is even a hands-off version.

Imagine letting the SPECTATOR shuffle the cards under test conditions. After a FREE selection, the spectator's FRIEND proceeds to read the SPECTATOR'S MIND correctly!
No prearranged stooges! The spectator becomes an instant mentalist.

This is NOT a Stripper Deck.
This is a true utility deck that can be used as a normal deck. It can withstand close inspection.
Even magicians that KNOW it is gaffed have trouble finding it.

My Take:

A few years ago, Ray Goulet returned to Boston from a convention raving about a new deck switch device called the Cooler by a magician named Christiana Engblom. And he was right. A clever well built device that would switch decks invisibly for you. Since that time, Christian has teamed up with Dan DaOtez and Miguel Angel Gea to form magic supergroup, the Fat Brothers.

Christian was a student of Juan Tamariz and Juan even gives this effect a rave review along with another from Max Maven. That alone is enough to get your juices flowing.

What you get is a gaffed deck that is still sealed (a rarity among gaffed decks) and a link to 10 instructional videos. When I downloaded my ten I numbered them so they would play in order. Each of the videos is well shot and explains what you need to know thoroughly. Christian is a friendly likable guy who seems to be having a lot of fun with his invention.

Now, for the deck. It is gaffed but could still be used for other effects after although I would suggest you do not do this as it would be a pain to reset. That being said, you could actually hand this out to your spectator with almost zero chances of getting caught. Christian is upfront about the deck not being his creation. It has been used by others before dating back to the 1800’s. However, Christian’s handling is what is new.

This is definitely an effect for the move monkeys and Marlophiles out there. This will require some serious practice time. He starts out with a fairly simple trick then proceeds to teach you what he refers to as “the dreaded Pinkie Control”. This is a control that can only be used on this deck but it is really effective. Christian suggests that it should take at least two hours of practice to get the move down. I think it would take longer for the average person. If you are experienced with such moves as the side steal, it could decrease the learning curve for you. He also says the fingers must be moist in order to use the deck. I personally have very dry hands so have to use a moisturizer to accomplish this. Not as good as naturally moist fingers but still serviceable.

Lennert Green’s Hands Off One Way Control is taught. This is pure genius, easy to do and you will use it with other decks.

Several tricks are taught, all of which are very impressive.

Name Spell- Spectator chooses a card, replaces it in the deck and shuffles. The magician then asks his name and spells down to that card which just happens to be the selection.

Poker Deal – Christian took out four of a kind, placed them back in the deck in various places and shuffled. Only after that did he ask the spectator how many hands were to be dealt and which player should receive the four of a kind. He then proceeds to do just that. Fun to watch, quite a little harder to do. Christian teaches you his center deal which is made much more accessible by the deck.

He Knows – Christian had a young lady choose a card and shuffle it back into the deck. He shows her that it neither the top nor bottom card. Holding the deck so the bottom card is shown, he turned around to her friend and showed hi the bottom card and ask him to concentrate and name her card. The friend does so and you end clean.

Conclusion: This probably would not be for the casual card worker and definitely not for a beginner. There is some serious work going on here but the results are worth it. The effects are stunning to watch and if you take the time to learn what you need do, you will have some beautiful performances.

Murphy’s has made a live interview with Christian regarding Triple-C. It can be viewed here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtuadDr-TgA
